Harley touring bikes are great cross country machines and usually come pre-equipped with a Harley Davidson fairing. The Road King’s are the most common models of touring bikes made by Harley.
As you would imagine, Harley motorcycles that are built for ‘touring the country’, come with all of the bells and whistles which make them some of the most comfortable bikes to ride around on. From the oversized windshield all the way back to the big saddlebags, there’s nothing quite like touring with a Harley Davidson.
In addition to the windshield and the saddlebags, the touring models of these machines, come strapped with air suspension technology and stock fairings that are decked out with am/fm radio, and CB’s. All of the Harley touring models came with the same frame design for about 20 years until 2009 when they were changed over to a newer design to accommodate the new V Twin engine which is considerably larger than the original Shovelhead engine.
2009 was when the frame was drastically changed, but there were still some changes before then to cater to smaller details. In ’94 the oil-tank was moved to fit below the trannie. The battery was also relocated from it’s original position of beside the rear saddlebag, to below the passenger’s seat cushion. There was one more notable change in frame design when the need for a battery of larger size was introduced in ’97.
If you’re planning to do any amount of long distance traveling then a Harley cruiser is definitely one of the top preferences for riders today. If you’ve ever spent a road-trip amount of time on a sport bike then you would know they are not at all the best option for touring or traveling long distances. The other kind of motorcycle you would want to avoid using when you plan on traveling, is the dual purpose bikes which are most commonly used for dirt biking when they’re not being driven on the road.
Having a big windshield, radio, cushioned seat, saddlebags, and a Harley Davidson Fairing on your touring bike is the best way to get from point A to point B when you’re investing in a motorcycle.
